Graham White seizes opportunities for continued growth in Remanufacturing Services
When Graham White’s customers talk, the company listens. And it’s that responsiveness that’s put them in a strong position for continued growth in the remanufacturing field
“Jim Frantz, our president and CEO, knew that some of our customers wanted service centers closer to them,” says manufacturing manager Dan Hughes. “He saw an opportunity to expand on the service side of our business and to better meet our customers’ needs,” he adds.
So Graham White established satellite locations, beginning with its Carson City, Nev. center seven years ago and adding its new Shreveport, La. facility last May. Now, with three strategically located remanufacturing centers in the U.S. (the Salem, Va. facility is also home to Graham White’s corporate offices and OEM) the company is able to keep delivery times as short as possible and be more responsive to customers across all time zones.
“Graham White has prided itself on providing reliable transportation solutions for heavy rail, rail transit, military, truck and bus, and industrial clients since the early 1900s” says Stewart Bruce, VP Marketing.
“We’re sought out increasingly for the quality of our remanufacturing services,” says Jeff Riggs, operations manager of Graham White’s Carson City facility, which re-conditions brake valves as well as the company’s own product line made in Salem. GE Transportation, EMD, Gunderson, Union Pacific and Progress Rail Services are just a few of the western center’s customers.
In addition to remanufacturing brake valves and air dryers for locomotives and freight cars, Graham White installs available technological upgrades and even gives new life to entire locomotive brake kits.
“Companies are finding it’s more cost effective to outsource this service to specialists,” says Dan Hughes. “We typically turn around components in two weeks or less, where it can take 16 to 22 weeks for a railroad to get new ones,” he says.
Hughes says that responsiveness is just part of Graham White’s winning formula. “Our work force is willing to do the research, develop the tooling, do the testing---whatever it takes to re-manufacture any customer’s product. When they leave our plant, they look like new products. And Graham White’s warranty--the longest in the business--speaks for itself.”
Graham White’s remanufacturing service has seen double digit growth in the past two years, with a targeted increase of 50 percent in the next two years.
“The opportunity to grow in the remanufacturing field is endless with the correct customer focus and commitment,” adds Hughes.
