Graham White E-Bell ® Advancements Set New Standard for Reliability
Graham-White Manufacturing Company announces that its E-Bell® a solid-state electronic bell which has proven to be a reliable replacement for earlier pneumatic models, has undergone additional improvements to even further increase its reliability in all environments.
According to Hunter Babcock, engineering project manager, the new design of E-Bell® further reduces the moving parts in the speaker system required to produce the bell’s loud, clear tone. The design changes were implemented into production lines earlier this year.
“Our electronic bell must work reliably in all environments, including harsh weather, extreme temperatures, and with excessive vibration from the rails,” says Babcock. “Improvements in design have allowed us to increase reliability without sacrificing sound quality, which was very important to the customer.”
Graham White has been the leader in pneumatic bell ringer technology for more than 50 years, says Stewart Bruce, VP of marketing. When the E-Bell® was introduced in 1999, it was hailed as a significant advancement, because it required less maintenance, was lighter than its cast iron predecessor, and avoided the potential freeze ups associated with conventional bell ringers.
”Further advancement of the E-Bell® product helps to solidify our position as an innovator in the marketplace,” says Bruce. “We have been at the forefront of this technology since the beginning and expect that these improvements will continue to set the standard in the industry for reliability as well as performance.”
Today, most of the Class 1 railroads (NS, BNSF, UP, CSX, CN, CP) as well as many regional and short line railroads are using the E-BELL® on new locomotives and new GENSET technology. Both EMD and GETS have released the technology in their product offerings.
Graham-White is the leader in E-Bell® installations in locomotives used around the world with approximately 4500 in service. For more information on Graham-White products and services, log on to www.grahamwhite.com.
